This Dessert:
Pharaoh's First Dream
Pharaoh dreamed that seven skinny cows and seven fat cows emerged from the Nile. The seven skinny cows then ate the fat cows but didn’t appear any fatter.
What you Need:
Ingredients
1 recipe vanilla/white roll-out cookie dough
1 recipe chocolate roll-out cookie dough
¼ cup pink icing
½ cup white icing
21 chocolate chips
Things
Parchment paper
Rolling pin
Cow cookie cutter
Offset spatula
Piping bag
How to Make It:
Divide all the cookie dough into many smaller equal sized balls.
Lay out a piece of parchment paper.
Place all the balls close together on the parchment paper in a spotted cow pattern.
Put a piece of parchment paper on top and roll out the dough to about a ¼ of an inch thick.
Use your cow cookie cutter to cut out 21 cows.
Stick a chocolate chip upside down into each cow’s head to make an eye.
Bake the cows according to the recipe.
When the cookies cool, spread a thin layer of white icing over 7 cookies. Immediately top with a second cookie. Let set.
Fill a piping bag with pink icing. Cut off a tiny bit from the tip of the bag.
Pipe a pink oval mouth/nose and a small pink ear in the appropriate area on each of the now 14 cows..
Let set.
Some Roll-Out Cookie Recipes:
Multi-Colored Cookies
Ingredients
3 ¼ cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup margarine
1 ⅓ cups sugar
2 eggs
2 ounces chocolate, melted (optional)
Your choice of flavorings/extracts
Your choice of food colorings
Directions
Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a small bowl.
In a separate large bowl cream together margarine and sugar.
Beat in eggs one at a time until smooth, light and fluffy.
Continue mixing and add in the dry ingredients in two parts.
Divide the dough based on the number of different flavors/colors, one part for each flavor/color.
Mix in a few drops of food coloring for color and about 1 teaspoon of extract to each portion. For chocolate dough knead the melted chocolate into its portion of dough.
Cover the dough and refrigerate for about 1 hour to firm up the dough.
Heat the oven to 350℉.
Arrange the colors into whatever design you desire. Either roll the dough into a log and slice ¼ inch thick cookies or roll the dough into a ¼ inch thick sheet in between 2 sheets of parchment paper and use cookie cutters to cut into the desired shape.
Place cookies on a parchment lined baking sheet.
Bake for 10-12 minutes until almost firm and very slightly browned.
Chocolate Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
1 cup margarine
1 ¾ cups sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups flour
1 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
Directions
In a large bowl cream together margarine and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in eggs and vanilla until fully combined.
Whisk flour, cocoa, salt, and baking powder together in a separate medium bowl.
Slowly sprinkle dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix until smooth.
Heat the oven to 350℉.
Roll dough until ¼ - ⅛ inch thick and cut into desired shapes.
Move cookies to a lined baking sheet and bake for 8 - 11 minutes until the center is soft and puffed and the edge is firm.
