This Week's Parsha
Vayeishev
This Dessert:
Yosef’s Multi-colored Coat
Yosef’s brothers are jealous of him and sell him as a slave. Yosef has a special, colorful coat that his father made for him. The brothers take that coat and dip it in blood. Then they show it to Yaakov to make him think that Yosef was killed by a wild animal.
What you need:
Ingredients
1 recipe blondie batter
Red food coloring
Green food coloring
Yellow food coloring
Blue food coloring
Things
6 small bowls
Various sized star cookie cutters
Large platter
How to make it:
Divide the blondie batter into 7 equal parts. Place 2 parts in one bowl and 1 part in each of the other 5 bowls.
Mix 5 drops of red food coloring into the double portion of dough.
Mix 2 drops of food coloring into each of the other portions as follows: 1 drop red and 1 drop yellow; 2 drops yellow; 2 drops green; 2 drops blue; 1 drop red and 1 drop blue.
Fill your appropriately sized baking dish (as per your recipe) with rows of colored dough. The batter should fill the pan, the colors won’t mix too much but they will all touch.
Bake according to your recipe.
When they are ready, take the blondies out of the oven and let cool.
Cut various sized stars of the blondie using the cookie cutters, cut the pieces close together to use as much of the blondie as possible. Try to cut each color separately but it’s fine if they mix a little.
Arrange the pieces on the platter in the shape of a coat. Group the same color pieces together, remember that there should be a large ‘blood stain’. Use smaller pieces to fill in the gaps between larger pieces so it looks more or less whole.
